Dutton Park State School
Dutton Park State School was opened in 1884 to provide education for the children of the area, which was becoming more closely settled. The school is located in the inner city suburb of Dutton Park and primarily services students from the suburbs of Dutton Park, Woolloongabba, Highgate Hill, South Brisbane and Fairfield.
The school is located on the fringe of the inner urban redevelopment zone. It is easily accessible for people working within the inner city area and is serviced by Park Road train station and the Brisbane City Council bus service.
Future developments proposed for the adjacent Boggo Road Gaol site will have considerable impact on student enrolments and facilities (such as improved parking and safe drop-off/pick-up zone) when implemented. Members of the school community are currently working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the safest, most appropriate outcomes for all.
At the start of 2008, there were 226 pupils enrolled at the school, including 23 children entitled to Special Education Unit support and 18 Preparatory (Prep) children. As in all Queensland schools, Prep has now replaced the former Pre-school program.
